Its responsibilities generally include:
- Establishing and administering election procedures
- Managing candidate filing and determining whether candidates meet city requirements
- Maintaining municipal voter-registration records
- Preparing ballots and arranging polling locations
- Recruiting and supervising election judges and other workers
- Handling mail-in ballot applications and ballots
- Counting votes, resolving procedural election issues, and certifying official results
- Providing election notices and information to residents
